Employing primary school graduates without the administrative burden

The National Council of the Slovak Republic has approved an amendment to the Labour Code which makes it easier for employers to employ primary school graduates (persons over 15 years of age before the end of their compulsory education).

Under the current legislation, employers may not agree a day preceding the day on which a natural person finishes compulsory schooling as the day of commencement of work. There are exceptions to this rule - so-called “easy jobs“, which, however, require a permit from the Labour Inspectorate.

With the adoption of the amendment to the Labour Code, primary school graduates will be able to work during the summer holidays between the ninth grade and the start of secondary school, without unnecessary bureaucratic obstacles on the part of employers (without the need to obtain permission for employment). For persons under 15 years of age, the permission from the Labour Inspectorate remains unchanged.

The aforementioned amendment to the Labour Code has yet to be signed by the President. It is expected to enter into force on 1 August 2024.
